On September 7, 2026, the government said the new system and visa rules are now fully operational.

The immigration department runs these changes under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration through the Solomon Islands Border Management System (BMS).

According to Section 92(1) of the Immigration Act 2012, the electronic system is allowed for submitting and processing visa applications.

Now, anyone needing a visa must apply online before traveling. Online applications and payments are available for several visa types, such as Visitor and Business Visas, and some special exemption and special purpose categories.

The new immigration system includes 34 visa types across 11 visa categories, such as visitors, business travelers, workers, students, and special arrangements.

For the Tourist Visa, the fee is $50 for administration and $50 for service, making a total of $100.

An extension costs another $100.Travelers get 30 days of permission before arriving, and the tourist category could allow a total stay of up to 180 days.

However, some official websites show different stay lengths.

The online portal says a single-entry Tourist Visa allows a 90-day stay with one extension up to 90 more days. But the public visa page mentions 30 days of initial approval, a 60-day extension, and a maximum stay of 180 days.

Not everyone is affected by the new e-Visa system.

People from the US, Canada, the UK, and eligible EU countries still have existing visa-free or reduced visa arrangements for short visits.EU citizens can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period, as long as they are not working for pay.

The government says these changes are meant to make travel and tourism easier and also improve border security, accessibility, and how visas are processed.
