Nigeria has started a new chapter in its immigration process with the launch of a fully digital e-Visa system and automated Landing & Exit Cards. These changes, which took effect on May 1, 2025, are part of the Nigeria Visa Policy 2025 and are designed to make travel easier, faster, and more secure.
The new e-Visa replaces the previous visa-on-arrival option, which will be completely phased out by May 30. According to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), travelers can now apply online and receive their visas within 48 hours. The e-Visa includes 13 categories such as business, tourism, transit, family visits, and short-term study. Once approved, the e-Visa is sent by email with a QR code and cannot be extended.
Alongside this, the government has introduced a digital Landing & Exit Card system. All international travelers, except Nigerian citizens, must complete the landing card before boarding their flight to Nigeria and the exit card before leaving the country. These new systems aim to improve security, reduce paperwork, and make border checks faster for everyone.
